  • See What Happens

As part of the commission that Nicolas posted about earlier, on our NV blog, I made two large patchwork fabric banners. I wanted to create something for this project that was both high impact, especially in terms of bringing some colour into the space, and also that was process driven. I had been playing with paper assemblages and collage that led me to this. Taking inspiration from Louise Bourgeois’ fabric works I collected a variety of fabrics, trying to react to whatever caught my eye, and put them together in a very instinctive simple way and stitch them together.

It was the first fabric piece I’ve done for a while and reminded of when I used to attempt bigger things that were out of my comfort zone and immediate skill set. It was exciting and a real return to just doing something and seeing what happens.

I call them ‘See What Happens’. They are now hanging up in the University of Loughborough’s art department ‘Radar’ building.

  • ‘Fresh Ones’ at Loop Arts Fair

For our part in Loop we set up painting studio under our ‘Fresh Ones’ banner. Alongside our fast becoming standard product range we scoured Leeds for rogue bits of wood, got some recycled paint and made spontaneous paintings over the two days.

  • This day

I’m at residence in our Fresh Ones room at Pick Me Up and very nice it is too. Our room certainly has a chilled out vibe and it makes a nice space to hang and draw and chat in. I’ve been doing a bit of drawing practice as I’m also taking part in It’s Nice That’s ‘One Of One’ live drawing event, on Wednesday afternoon and Friday afternoon, so say hi if you;re passing through that time.

Also wanted to show off the pots that I’ve thrown and decorated specifically for our Fresh Ones shop. It’s something I want to do a lot more of, I’m really excited to see how I can use the object as a narrative device and canvas for my drawings. They are available now at our shop at Pick Me Up.

    The Joy of Living!

We got asked to be a part of this show, for which I completed a piece. We went to the opening and it was a lovely affair, it felt great to be a part of the project and our piece sold. Lovely! Thanks to whoever bought it!

I will reveal my piece after the show finishes as all designs are remaining anonymous at present.

    Joy of Living
is a charity project that unites over 100 leading lights in the design community to galvanise support for Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres. Design author Max Fraser has set the challenge to a cross-section of new and established UK designers to create a desirable artwork that expresses the Joy of Living – all starting from a simple sheet of A4 graph paper. The signed works will be exhibited and on sale in London’s inspiring space for art, culture and creative exchange, Somerset House, from 15 – 21 March.

    Tic Toc Pop Up Shop

Efdeay Collective have popped up a pop up shop by St Pancras station in London. They asked me, alongside a whole host of illustrators to contribute so you can buy the print below as an A3 riso. Get down there.

  • Hit Me Up

    Hi,
once again after failed promises of more regular blogging I finally find some time to catch up. In the past two months, I have half moved to London, in that I’m here, but have nowhere to live, although I do have a studio (with lots of lovely people, a group I’m super stoked to start being a part of - as soon as I get a desk). Pick Me Up came and went, it was great fun, and a fantastic chance to meet so many people, some finally in the flesh, some for the first time, all lovely.

Also despite reports that may suggest otherwise, my facial hair has not a hint of irony about it.
